Statement from the Alabama Community College System on the passing of Dr. James Lowe, Jr.

Alabama Community College System (ACCS) employees mourn the loss of President James Lowe, Jr., who passed away on Wednesday, Feb.18.  Dr. Lowe served as president of Bishop State Community College located in Mobile.

“The Alabama Community College System family is deeply and profoundly saddened by the passing of President James Lowe,” said Chancellor Mark Heinrich. “He was a dedicated, experienced educator and a man of great character. He was committed to, and worked tirelessly for the betterment of Bishop State, his students, faculty and staff, his community, and our system. He will be greatly missed.”

Dr. James Klauber, Sr., Calhoun Community College’s new president, will discuss immediate and long-range plans for the college and take questions from the media during a news conference scheduled for this Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in the President’s Conference Room, third floor of the Math, Science and Administration Building on Calhoun's Decatur campus.

As Calhoun’s fifth president, Klauber officially began his duties on February 1. His first day on campus is today.

Chancellor Suspends Search Process and Announces Bevill State Community College Interim President

Chancellor Mark Heinrich announced today that he has suspended the search process for the naming of a new president for Bevill State Community College.  Dr. Heinrich stated, “After careful study, review and consideration, I have determined that it is currently in the best interest of Bevill State Community College and the Alabama Community College System to terminate the most recent presidential search without filling the position.  I will be reconvening this process in the next few months with the goal of seeking an outstanding leader for this historic institution.”

Trenholm State Achieves SACSCOC Accreditation

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Board of Trustees announced on December 9, 2014, in Nashville, Tennessee at the 2014 SACSCOC Annual Meeting that H. Councill Trenholm State Technical College has been granted accreditation.  SACSCOC is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Latin America and other international sites that award associate or higher degrees.
