In the Alabama Community College System, academics is an approach to learning which focuses on motivating and challenging students to connect what they learn with the world they experience and with what interests them.

By providing relevant academic content, instructors help students retain more and can apply it to their daily lives. Small classes allow instructors to help students understand the reasons for studying the curriculum and can capitalize on the students' natural learning styles. Online courses, podcasts, teleconferences and remote classroom partnerships provide alternatives to the traditional classroom structure to meet the needs of busy students, working parents, and baby boomers.

STARS, which means Statewide Transfer & Articulation Reporting System, is a web-accessible database system which provides guidance and direction for prospective transfer students in the State of Alabama. The STARS System allows public two-year students to obtain a Transfer Guide/Agreement for the major of their choice. This guide/agreement, if used correctly, guides the student through his/her first two years of coursework and prevents loss of credit hours upon transfer to the appropriate public four-year university in Alabama.
